Early sowing

Recently published research by James Hunt and co-authors in Nature, Early sowing systems can boost Australian wheat yields despite recent climate change, has identified widespread yield benefits to the Australian grains industry from early sown wheat. Potential factors to consider include variety, seeding rate, nitrogen timing, grazing potential and yield impact, and sowing date.

There are currently 240 trials in OFT on early sown crops including wheat (84), canola (31), lentils (21), field peas (20), barley (17), faba beans (16) and chickpeas (13).
