Survival of Rhizobium spp. on chemically treated seed locations
Aims

To establish the compatibility of a broad range of commonly used agricultural chemicals in association with rhizobial inoculants an dgrain legume seed.

Key messages
  • Inoculum are living bacteria.
  • Survial of rhizobia is vital for inoculation and effective nodulation of crop and pasture legumes.
  • Chemicals and fertilisers can affect survival and persistence of rhizobia in the soil.
  • Therefore, ensure high numbers of rhizobia are sown, especially where chemicals are used.
