Evaluation of forage varieties in a cropping system locations
Aims

To investigate using alternative crops in medium to high rainfall zone, and to collect more data to establish dry matter and production in these zones.

Key messages
  • A range of forage varieties were grown as rotational options at SFS mininera and Dunkeld sites.
  • At Mininera, a relatively well drained and high fertility site, Graza 80 Forage Oats (10.06 t/ha DM), Graza 51 Forage Oats (8.9 t/ha DM) and Grassmax Annual Diploid Rypgrass (8.4 t/ha DM) produced the highest forage yields.
  • At Dunkeld, a wetter site and lower fertility and cropping history, Leafmore Forage Rape (6.6 t/ha DM), Rasina Vetch (6.1 t/ha DM), Graza 51 Oats (6.3 t/ha DM) and Mitika (6.4 t/ha DM) were the highest forage yield.s
