Effects of copper and zinc on wheat for newly cleared grey sandy and gravelly surface soils of Western Australia locations
Aims

To determined the apploication rates of copper and zinc fertiliser for the maximum grain yield of wheat

Key messages
  • Several sites where the main soil is grey sand over a yellow gravelly sandy loam {Altas of Australian Soils sheet 5; CSIRO Division of Soils).
  • Neither Cu nor Zn applied alone gave increase grain yield.
  • Increased grain yield resulted where Cu & Zn were applied together
  • Application of greater than 2.75 - 5.5 kg bluestone (Cu sulfate] and about 1.5 -2.0 kg Zinc oxide drilled with a cereal crop gave maximum yields
  • Aerophos treatements with low Zn content showed extrememly low grain yield compared to super; illustrating the value of Zn in plain super.
