Effect of copper and zinc on wheat on newly cleared yellow gravelly surface sands of the western Australia locations
Aims

To determine the rates of copper and zinc required for maximum grain yield of wheat grown on yellow sands of the western zone.

Key messages
  • Summary of 2 experiments
  • Nil Cu and Nil Zn gave equal top yield.
  • Even without Zn, CuSulfate @2.75 kg/ha slight nonsignificant increase in the growing season.
  • Zn addition decrease wheat yield with no added Cu.
  • Cu  at 2.75 kg Cu sulfate gave maximum yield.
  • Copper deficiency of wheat and barley have been recorded in trials and farmer paddocks.
  • Aerophos and plain superphosphate treatments were not significantly different.
