Aims

Assess the performance of a range of lentil, faba Bean, field pea and vetch varieties and breeding lines on acidic soils in the North Central region of Victoria. 

Key messages
  • Field peas and vetch were most profitable in this low rainfall year. While grains yields were low, all crops either ‘broke even’ or made a small profit, indicating that pulses have a fit in farming systems in this region with additional benefits achieved in the following crop. Always consider varietal performance over several seasons to ensure suitability.
