Plant Breeders’ Rights (PBR)
Some crop varieties used in research trials may be covered by Plant Breeders' Rights (PBR). Users should confirm PBR status of relevant varieties by searching the IP Australia PBR database, http://pericles.ipaustralia.gov.au/pbr_db/ or Variety Central (http://varietycentral.com.au/) and contacting variety owners for further information if required. Where possible, varieties have been listed according to their registered PBR name, although OFT cannot and does not guarantee that the information is accurate or complete.
Note that PBR cover is administered through the Plant Breeders’ Right Act 1994 (https://www.legislation.gov.au/Series/C2004A04783).
Registered products, trade names and intellectual property protection
Products such as chemicals and fertilisers used in field trials may have registered trade names patents and other intellectual property (IP) protection. Brand names may also be protected. The IP Australia trademarks register can be used to check the status of each product or brand (https://search.ipaustralia.gov.au/trademarks/search/quick) and product owners should be contacted for further information if required. If further queries exist, contact the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (https://apvma.gov.au/).
