To investigate the effect of phosphorus application rates and strategies over a number of years on the growth and yield of wheat.

Part of a series of trials to assess wheat response to nitrogen and potassium under different conditions across the wheatbelt and, locally, determine rates to improve yield and returns.

To compare the plant density response of yield and oil content between hybrid and OP canola in TT and RR herbicide tolerance groups.

To evaluate yields and quality of new and existing field pea varieties.

To evaluate yields and quality of new and existing lupin varieties.

To investigate the N rate and time of application response of canola varieties to yield and oil content of Triazine tolerant (TT) and Roundup Ready (RR) hybrids in comparison with open-pollinated (OP) types to:

1. Provide growers in lower rainfall environments with guidelines on times of application to maximise grain and oil yields.
2. Determine if the management of hybrid canola nutrition is different to that of open pollinated varieties due to different responses to N rates and timing.

To investigate the response to changing the nitrogen rate and changing the time of application.  Canola yield and oil will be measured and RR hybrids will be compared with open-pollinated TT types (OP TT).

To investigate how nutrient interactions influence yield response. Specifically, if:

1. Applications of P, K and/or S fertilisers influence wheat yield under varying N concentrations.
2. “Background” nutrition influences fertiliser responsiveness.
3. Yield responses are a result of absolute nutrient concentrations or ratios between essential nutrients.

To conduct a canola (Roundup Ready) variety trial.

To provide a demonstration site to observe the effects of mouldboard ploughing vs. no cultivation on non-wetting soils and crop growth and yield.

• To determine if the addition of lime and its method of incorporation (none/control, MBP or deep rip) has an effect on the soil pH profile and crop productivity.
• To compare the impact of mouldboard ploughing and deep ripping on topsoil water repellence compared to an untreated control.

To assess the impact of (and interaction between) grazing and frost damage on the grain yield and quality of a range of winter and spring cereal varieties sown at two times of sowing.

To quantify the impact of stubble on the extent, severity and duration of frost and determine its effect on canopy temperature and grain yield.

Determine if there is an interaction between temperature and various rates of stubble and outline whether increased stubble loads change the severtiy and duration of frost.

To evaluate the effects of mouldboard ploughing and its ability to increase carbon on a poor yellow sand.

• Compare the new noodle wheat variety Supreme (IGW6042) against Calingiri to gauge variety performance.
• Compare noodle wheat to Mace in order to determine the economic viability of growing noodle wheat.

Compare the new IGW3526 imidazolinone tolerant wheat with Justica in a farm scale demonstration to gauge variety performance.

To showcase to growers different methods for deep incorporation of lime to ameliorate sub surface, below 10cm, acidity and improve soil health.

Examine the effect of variable rates of fertiliser on acidity in the furrow and how CalSap® interacts with soil pH over a period of time at different locations in the profile.

To determine if there are any benefits to increased productivity and carbon cycling on a yellow sandplain soil through mechanical incorporation.

Using tillage to incorporate lime improves the rates of reaction and increases subsurface pH soomer than spreading lime on the surface alone.

To determine how much green feed tedera can produce on gutless pale sandy soil and to determine if growing tedera can increase the amount of soil organic carbon in pale sandy soil.

To answer the quesitons:

• Does in-furrow application of fungicide using liquid banding improve control of Rhizoctonia solani compared to the untreated control or seed treatment?
• Does in-furrow application of fungicide using liquid banding improve control of Rhizoctonia solani compared to coating of granular fertiliser?
• Does an integrated approach incorporating cultivation, seed treatment and in-furrow fungicide application improve control of Rhizoctonia solani compared to the untreated control and all other individual treatments?

This trial aimed to compare the production of different annual legumes in the West Midlands and the associated seed loss to native budworm particularly in regards to serradella.

• To demonstrate the influence of rainfall on Sakura uptake.
• To highlight the influence of a drying top soil when weeds have already germinated prior to application of Sakura.
• To influence of rainfall to carry herbicide to soil active zone.
• To make a comparison between root (Sakura) and shoot uptake herbicides (trifluralin, Boxer Gold®, Avadex® Xtra) efficacy including residual control over time.

To determine the effectiveness of urease inhibitor products.

To identify on-farm management strategies to increase soil organic carbon (SOC) and quantify any associated risks and benefits in a grain production system.

In this trial the Facey Group wanted to determine whether:

1. Altering inputs to increase plant biomass would subsequently increase soil carbon and
2. Amending soils with compost would increase soil carbon storage or provide agronomic benefits.

Herbicide and application timing alternatives to control annual ryegrass and other weeds in fence lines and prevent the onset of resistance.

To (i) identify gaps in soil descriptions for the Esperance and Albany Zones (this project will assist growers to make better informed decisions when it comes to addressing their soil constraints and crop management decisions); and (ii) upskill growers and industry on the tools and models available to them and how to interpret the data generated from soil moisture probes through extension activities and workshops.
