Wheat variety on-farm demonstrations locations
Aims

To assess the suitability and quality characteristics of some new barley varieties against the widely grown variety Mitre.

Key messages
  • On-farm demonstrations were used to compare wheat variety performance in the Wimmera. Wyalkatchem, Ventura, Pugsley, Mitre and GBA Sapphire all performed well in this year’s trials.
  • It is difficult to make a decision about which variety is best. If a change in variety is required be sure to consider all characteristics about the variety, considering long term yield data and make sure it is suited to your environment with the desired quality characteristics.
