Aims
  • To investigate the feasibility of growing shorter season wheats as a spring-sown crop in the Hamilton district.
  • To determine what sowing rate is most applicable for a spring sown wheat crop. 
Key messages
  • Yields are quite encouraging despite the dry conditions during spring.
  • Silverstar appears to be the better performing variety, possibly due to its shorter maturity.
  • There was no significant difference between the sowing rates, although the results would appear to indicate that the higher sowing rate is more effective.
