Assessing the impact of foliar fungicides on yield and grain quality for Kellalac wheat locations
Aims

To assess the impact of using foliar fungicides for controlling leaf disease in Kellalac wheat.

Key messages
  • A single application of GS39 (flag leaf) of either Opus at 250ml/ha or Amstar Xtra at 100ml/ha to control fungal leaf disease, gave superior yield in Kellalac wheat by comparison to other treatments. There was no significant benefit of applying 2 sprays (GS30 and GS39) compared to a single application at GS39. This was no doubt due to the late onset of disease. The best spray treatment gave and extra 1082 kg/ha of grain compared to the unsprayed control. This gave a net return of approximately $130 per hectare for the best fungicide treatment compared to the control.
  • In terms of grain quality, screenings were reduced where a fungicide was used.
