Integrated weed management: evaluating the effectiveness of Sakura for pre-emergent ryegrass control in wheat locations
Aims

The aim was to investigate ryegrass control using Bayer Sakura 850 WG and other commonly used herbicides in mixtures or as standalone treatments.

Key messages

• Pre-emergent weed control with Sakura reduced annual ryegrass populations by 85-97% compared to the control

• Combining Sakura pre-em with Boxer Gold at GS11 resulted in 97% weed control 180 days after sowing

• Sakura provides robust pre-em weed grass control and can be used as one element of an integrated weed management approach

• Other practices that can form part of an IWM strategy include paddock selection, cultural control, grazing, land fallowing and chemical rotation
