To assess the effects of nitrogen rates on roundup ready canola varieties.
Key messages
Of the varieties planted, the hybrid variety CB Eclipse provided the highest grain yield per hectare of 2.59 t/ha, and achieved the highest grain value/Ha.
The nitrogen treatments showed that providing more than 82N/ha increased grain yield. 108kg/ha N increased yield by approx. 0.3t/ha. The 122kg/ha N rate did not increase grain yield however, suggesting that perhaps this rate was over the top of the Nitrogen response curve. Both the higher N treatments reduced oil content.
Hybrid vigour was evident early in both the Eclipse and 502 plots, but was less noticeable at the end of the season.
Hyola 502RR had a slightly poorer establishment compared to Eclipse and GT61.
Seed Costs are a consideration, with RR hybrids around $28-$30/kg and RR Ops around $16-18/kg.
