Aims

To examine the effect of high grain boron concentration on the growth of wheat genotypes with a range of boron sensitivities.

Key messages
  • Despite seed boron concentrations being very high (>20 mg/kg) there was no detectable effect on seedling emergence or growth.
  • The amount of boron in the shoots was similar irrespective of the amount of boron in the grain.
  • It would appear that grain boron is not mobilised to the developing seedling.
