Manganese placement methods for wheat following lupins on Esperance sand plain locations
Aims

To determine the methods and rates of Mn placement  required for maximum grain yield of wheat following lupin grown on Grey sands on Esperance sand plainacross 3 seasons.

Key messages
  • Summary of 2 experiments over 5 seasons esperiments.

  • For wheat, sites were selected where lipins gave a large seed reponse in the previous year. Lupins produced much split seed.

  • Wheat showed no response to freshly applied and previously applied Mn fertiliser

  • Soil grey sands Deep phase gibson sand

  • Dtpa Mn < 4.0 mg/kg soil

  • However for wheat there was no grain yield response to Mn. Grain yield ranges from 3.5 -3.75 t/ha

  • hence no determination on either methods of placement were possible for wheat

  • Mn concentration in young leaves > 20 mg/ka & Mn concentration in grain > 30 both from nil Mn

  • Nor residual value fot wheat could be determined
