Aims

To evaluate chickpea varieties and breeding lines against ascochyta blight and their response to foliar fungicide application. 

Key messages
  • Despite a dry year with low grain yields, ascochyta blight was observed in all varieties, with stem breakages visible.
  • However, there was significant variation between varieties and some newer breeding lines including CICA1454 ranked equal or better than Genesis 090 (see Table 2 in attached report).  
  • Although there were significant differences between varieties with ascochyta blight infection, this did not equate to differences in grain yield.
  • There was only a significant difference between fungicide treatments (see Table 3 in attached report).
