Evaluation of Forage Varieties in Cropping Systems locations
Aims

To evaluate new cultivars and provide productive alternatives for cropping rotations in HRZ regions which;
• Show how products can combine to improve outcome
• Provide High DM production- for grazing, hay or silage
• Allow alternative weed control methods e.g. competition, different herbicide groups
• Provide Nitrogen fixation in productive rotation
• Use of different species for rotation of disease lifecycles.

Key messages

Due to unforseen circumstances, results for 2011 aren’t available for the Seedmark pasture evaluation sites. Seedmark do however look forward to continuing their work with MFMG in 2012 to explore the most appropriate Forage/Pasture rotation options.

The Field Days did however see the release of the new pasture variety “Monti” bred and developed by SARDI’s pastures group and released by the Australian Pasture Alliance (APA), an alliance between SARDI and Seedmark. Struan based SARDI researchers Andy
Craig and Freya Hawker lead the development of Monti with an extensive evaluation program run across a number of research site for the last 4 years. Below are some photos from the event.
