Other trial notes

Seed size is critical to the marketability of lentil. In PBA HallmarkXT, there has been some discounting of price due to variability in seed size and it not quite fitting into one of the 3 market classes (small, medium & large). In 2020, we sourced seed from the previous season and graded it into 4 seed sizes >5mm, 4.5-5MM, 4-4.5mm and <4mm. This see was sown and showed that the larger sown seed produced larger seed at harvest, but had no impact on biomass or yield. In 2021, we are repeating the trial from 2020 with the same seed lots plus sowing out seed from the harvest seed lots in 2020. In addition we have screened the 2020 seed lot which ranged in sized from 4-5.5mm into seed size groups similar to 2020 and sown that seed to understand seed size stability over seasons.
