This trial aims to assess (1) yield loss from disease infection, and (2) economics of disease management control strategies
Chocolate spot and ascochyta blight in faba bean were infrequently reported in SA in 2023. Very low levels of ascochyta blight were identified on moderately susceptible variety PBA Marne in early August. However, the dry spring conditions halted any disease progression at the site. For this season, there was no grain yield response to fungicides applied to control disease (P=0.963). There was also no grain yield response to variety selection (P=0.217), with PBA Samira, PBA Marne and PBA Amberley yielding 4.14-4.33 t/ha.
