Crop Rotations and Herbicide Inputs for Brome Grass Management in Wheat-Based Systems in Western Australia locations
Aims

To determine safest options for post emergent weed control following soil amelioration.

Key messages
  • All treatments showed acceptable levels of crop effect 10DAA.
  • Scorch was more visible in treatments with bromoxynil.
  • Treatments with root pruning herbicides i.e. pyrasulfotole and prosulfocarb showed crop biomass reduction 28DAA.

This is a GRDC-invested project, UOA2303-006RTX, Effective control of brome grass in the southern and western cropping zones. This site is managed by the Liebe Group as one of two sites across the Wheatbelt that aim to evaluate the crop rotation benefits of a two or three-year break on the management of brome grass. Thanks to Living Farm for their assistance in implementing the trial.
