Aims

To evaluate the effect of phosphorus rate (0, 5, 15 & 25 kg P/ha) and placement method (in-furrow vs broadcast and incorporated by sowing) on the growth and productivity of faba beans at Caragabal in 2024.

Key messages

Key findings

  • NDVI assessments were taken on 24 July as it relates with crop biomass (to a point). NDVI increased with higher phosphorus (P) rates and was higher where P was placed in-furrow compared with where it was   broadcast and incorporated by sowing (IBS).
  • Grain yield followed a similar trend as NDVI. Yield increased from 4.1 to 4.5 t/ha as P rate increased from nil to 25 kg P/ha. Placing P in-furrow with seed gave a 0.2 t/ha yield improvement over where P was broadcast and incorporated by sowing (IBS).
