Optimising nutrition to maximise yield in canola in the HRZUnderstand the critical nutrients required to achieve high yielding (>3t/ha) canola crops, especially when wanting to chase yields with high N in-season. Background Project staff ran a series of workshops in high rainfall areas in WA in 2019 to understand key constraints and knowledge gaps when cropping within the HRZ (450-800mm annual rainfall) of WA. Among other things, optimising nutrition to maximise profitability was one such knowledge gap, especially considering fertiliser is the largest variable input cost. While there are a number of resources available that define critical levels of nutrition, this project is specifically focussed on growers with achieved or aspirational yields of 10t/ha in cereals and 5t/ha in canola, and so this trial will investigate whether the critical (or limiting) nutrients change at these high yields (and high levels of applied N). |
