Gypsum

Soils that suffer from poor infiltration due to structure decline and sodicity can result in significant losses in productivity and decline in plant health. An amendment commonly used to treat such conditions is gypsum (otherwise known as calcium sulfate dehydrate).

Online Farm Trials has gypsum trials from the Western, Southern and Northern grower regions tackling a range of topics, including benefits to soil structure, soil acidity and sodicity. Interesting examples include the benefits to plant establishment for canola, links with micro-nutrient availability and the relationship to improving soil organic carbon.
