The overall objective was to determine the influence of Jockey seed treatment with and without follow up fungicides, either one or two
applications.

The background and objectives for this trial are identical to those set out for the MacKellar trial, though the variety Kellalac gives the opportunity of looking at the influence of plant population, nitrogen timing and nitrogen rate on a spring APW wheat as opposed to a winter feed wheat.

• To assess the grain and forage production of winter wheat following simulated grazing at 2 different crop growth stages.
• To determine the total return from grain and forage dry matter.

This trial is part of larger GRDC funded project, which examines whether lower plant populations and later timed nitrogen approaches are suited to the HRZ in Australia, it also examines whether these techniques which were principally established for wheat can be used in malting barley, where high protein can be undesirable.

The objectives of these trials are very similar to those pursued last season, those being to establish guidelines on the use of foliar applied fungicides in barley crops.

These trials taking place in southern Victoria and Tasmania were conducted to examine the response of more disease resistant
varieties to triazole and strobilurin fungicides in the near absence of disease.

With the large majority of wheat cultivars now deemed to be susceptible to stripe rust, in particular the new WA pathotype, this trial was set up to look at economic response to different foliar fungicide timings. In addition the trial continued the evaluation of the strobilurin fungicides (as part of project SFS 00006), the first of which was registered for broad acre cereals in Australia in August 2004 (Amistar Xtra).

• The overall objective is to determine the influence of strobilurin fungicide application on the nitrogen requirement for malting barley.
• Within this overall objective there are a number of component objectives that are interrelated
• To assess the impact of strobilurin fungicide over and above conventional triazole fungicides on nitrogen requirement for malting barley, in effect to quantify any interaction between disease management and applied nitrogen.

• To calculate the cost-effectiveness of strobilurin and applied nitrogen in relation to grain quality.

• To determine the impact of sowing date on wheat yield and grain quality across 20 different wheat varieties.
• To understand how yield and quality is affected by the amount of time spent within the 3 growth stages.

To assess different interrow spacing widths using five different sowing treatments.

To evaluate different wheat varieties for yield and grain quality under both a nil foliar fungicide regime and a 3 spray fungicide regime.

This trial is one of many looking at grain yield and quality across a range of existing and new varieties. The trial also examined the effect of foliar fungicide on barley yield and grain quality.

The aim of the trial is to evaluate a number of commercially available and near release canola varieties that could be suitable growing in south west Victoria.

• To determine the interaction of nitrogen timing and dose with plant population in terms of yield, crop structure, predisposition to lodging and quality in the high rainfall zone.
